The Utah State Championships & Feis 2010
The Utah State Feis wasn’t really an important competition for me since there was only one other girl and myself in my competition, but I had such a blast! I felt I competed well, didn’t make many mistakes, and even tied for 1st in my Set Dance.
Championships were held on Friday, and all other solos and specials were on Saturday. I enjoyed watching the other Shelley School dancers compete inbetween my own dances. To me, the most exciting moment of the feis was when Taylor Jones, having already placed 1st in Preliminary Championships at another feis, bumped into Open Champs after winning her second 1st place in the 18 and Over competition! We were all so excited for her.
On Saturday, I returned to the Feis to compete with Amelia Walker in The Firecracker Special. All dancers were required to dress in Independence Day attire to celebrate the 4th of July and perform a hard or soft shoe dance. We dressed in white fluffy skirts, American socks, black tights covered in star stickers, red capes, and sparkling headbands that read “USA”. We danced a 2-hand reel and won 3rd place! We were so excited to find out that instead of winning a trophy, we were given a large package of fireworks and sparklers!
After dancing the Firecracker Special, Amelia and I spent the rest of the day taking photos of other dancers leaping and smiling for the judges. In seven years, I think it was the best Utah State Feis I’ve ever been to.
