I want to learn Irish Dancing-how do I get started?

Find out what opportunities abound in your hometown. There may be a school in your neighborhood.*

RinceWeb provides information of dance schools all over the world and is not limited to any organization.

If you are looking for a school that is certified with the largest Irish dance organization, An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha, try FeisWorx.com.

There are many other resources on the internet that may be helpful in tracking down a school in your area. Try IrishdancingDirectory.com, or WorldIrishDance.com.

Keep in mind that there are many schools that are not registered with any specific organization.

Get involved. Keep your eyes open for festivals and feisanna (competitions) that you can attend to get a feel for the culture. Chances are, even if there are no Irish dance schools nearby, an Irish festival is bound to crop up in your town come St. Patrick’s Day. Check out St-Patricks-Day.com for events in your area. Feisworx has a listing of some of the feisanna in the United States and Canada.

Can’t find a school nearby? Teach yourself the basics with videos and the internet.

Dance instructor Richard Tew is the Executive Producer of “Rince Resource” on YouTube where dancers and enthusiasts can learn steps and tips to improve their skills. He is also the producer for the DVD version of Rince Resource.

World renowned Irish dancer Jean Butler has a masterclass on DVD. Many dancers watch the masterclass at home to hone their technique.

Do you have access to other resources? Let us know.
