Crunch Time. Ireland Must Beat France
So tomorrow is the day. Ireland will face a mighty French team in the first of two World Cup football playoff games. The team that scores the most gets to lift their respective country to an incomparable emotional high and start preparing for a trip to South Africa next summer. The game is a tough one for Ireland – we have not beaten France since 1981. But Ireland are playing in a consistently solid manner and remain unbeaten after a brutal qualifying competition in a group that included world champions Italy.
In an effort to help lift the Irish from the doldrums that we are experiencing thanks to our tanking economy, a group of enthusiastic supporters are hoping to make tomorrow the greenest in Irish history. ‘You Boys In Green’ have teamed up with the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to encourage everyone to wear as much green gear as possible. “We want the French to think that we have moved St Patrick’s Day to November 14,” says Kevin Warren, one of the founders of the group.
Some have attributed the birth of Ireland’s Celtic Tiger economy to our successes at our first World Cup in Italia ’90. So it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that a win over France might kick start our country once again. Of course, I had planned on wearing plenty of green anyway, but to support the cause I will put on an extra green sock and become a fan of their group on Facebook.
How will you show your support? What do you think are our chances?

I think it's a great idea and it certainly can't hurt! I think a green mass in the stands in Croke Park will be quite a site. Let's all be positive here and send the begrudgers home!
