Martin Hayes

World reknowned Irish musician Martin Hayes recently wrote a piece for The Journal of Music magazine about ‘Tradition and Aspiration’.  I feel obliged to share the link to this story with you as it has many thought-provoking and intelligent things to say about tradition in relation to Irish music. It is all the more important considering Hayes’ standing in the world of Irish music and gives a unique insight into the mind of a master contemplating his own place within an ancient art form.

His final conclusions in relation to what tradition really is are particularly enlightening.

It is a longer read, but certainly worth it – check it out here.
