Enjoy An Irish Trad Session At Home

Irish-Traditional-Session

This year, you will now be able to enjoy the best trad sessions taking place at the Sligo Live festival no matter where you are in the world. The organisers are producing live and recorded video webcasts to bring the event to your computer and mobile devices.

Sligo Live Producer Shane Mitchell said, “It’s great to open out the session beyond the four walls of the pub; so that anyone can be part of a live music session from anywhere in the world.  It’s not always easy for Irish Traditional music fans from around the world to get to Ireland but certainly this webcast offers people the next best thing, capturing the event on line.  It’s very exciting for us at Sligo Live to be part of this innovative production bringing the traditional Irish music session into the digital age”.

I think this is a fun project and they have other ideas to make the experience more authentic. One of which is an attempt to add to the interactive experience by allowing viewers to send messages to the session that they are viewing. There is obviously nothing like being caught up in an impromptu session. And unfortunately you will not get the deep down feeling that tonight is the night that you introduce to the room a new song that you have recently added to your repertoire. But its certainly a fine attempt to open up the magic of live traditional music to a global audience.

Why not complete the experience by turning the lights down low in your room, spill some Guinness on the carpet and ’sssh’ your family members when they dare to come in and disrupt the musicians’ concentration?

Check out the Sligo Live website for more information.
