Dublin Wax Museum New And Improved

7 October 2009 No Comment by Rebecca @ Diddlyi

Picture 3The new location of Dublin’s National Wax Museum opens its doors today with some major upgrades and improvements. The museum, which is located at Foster Place near College Green in the city center, just completed a €3 million refurbishment and now boasts four floors of wax figures. The previous location in Parnell Square closed due to extensive flooding several years ago and apparently at that time several sculptures were also stolen!

Who can you expect to see at the new museum? The museum has an array of famous Irish wax figures as well as international stars. You can expect to see sculptures like Brian Boru (the famous Irish king), Brian O’Driscoll (the captain of the Irish rugby team), literary greats like Joyce and Yeats, and current Taoiseach Brian Cowen. There’s also a life-size replica of Leonard Da Vinci’s The Last Supper and sculptures of Elvis, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Admission is €10 for adults and €7 for children. I never had the chance to visit the old museum but a few people told me it wasn’t the most desirable of visitor attractions in Dublin. The new museum on the other hand sounds like its worth a look. I’m definitely curious to see what a wax Brian Boru looks like!
