Longs Peak Feis This Saturday

10 September 2009 3 Comments by Shelly Hathaway

Picture 1As of now I have exactly one practice left before Longs Peak Feis. I’ll be flying down early in the morning and out late at night so it won’t be too much of a vacation like some Feis trips can be. I save a lot of money doing it this way and can therefore go to more Feiseanna.

I could go into the studio on Friday for extra practice the day before, but for me, I’ve found it’s best to take a full day off dancing the day before a Feis. It gives my muscles time to relax a bit after pushing them harder than usual to prepare.

This is also about the time I start to get those resilient little butterflies flying around in my stomach. It never fails. No matter how many Feiseanna I’ve gone too, I still feel the anticipation every time. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, and it’s not like I have anything to lose, so it’s very irrational to get nervous. But I still do.

It’s going to be a lot of fun. I have grown to love Feis trips. No matter how well I do, I always treat myself to a nice dinner afterwords to celebrate once again having done the best I could. So no matter how well I do, all that matters to me is that I did my best in the end. Even if the best I could do was slip and fall on my butt.

It’s important for me to NOT make winning a goal. It’s entirely up to the judges if they want to throw a trophy my way. Not my business at all. I’m just there to show what I can do and help keep alive the beauty of Irish dance.

Thanks sooo much! I’m so excited about being in Open!!!

Oh I dunno how much I helped. You’re daughter is just a natural at leaps. Some people can really float them. :)

5 feis in Utah!!! Oh! It’s sooo great! Going from 1 feis to 5 in one year is so incredible! It’s about time. I’ve waited 6 years for this! I flew to like 9 Feis this year. I don’t think I even need to go anywhere next year. Holy cow!
