LED Lights To Animate Dublin Skyline

28 August 2009 No Comment by Rebecca @ Diddlyi

The Dublin Theatre Festival will take place this year from September 24th through October the 11th. Over the festival’s 18 day duration, 26 Irish and international shows will be performed at various venues throughout the capital city. (For a full list of events, click here.)

libertyhallThis year’s festival is incorporating a really cool art installation to be displayed on two sides (the South and West) of Dublin’s Liberty Hall. (Liberty Hall is the second tallest building in Dublin and is the headquarters of a few organizations.)

The art installation called Playhouse will include 100,000 LED lights installed onto 330 office windows which will display animations submitted by the public. Each night from dusk until dawn, animations in color and with sound will be shown from thirty seconds to three minutes in length. The organizers of the project intend to include all submitted work. No matter who you are, your work will be shown (and possibly a couple of times if the organizers really like your stuff) which is fantastic.

In case you can’t make it Dublin to check out Playhouse, sound and video live streams of the animation projects will be available online. I’ll be in Dublin around the time of the festival and I definitely want to see the animations on Liberty Hall. No doubt there’s going to be a great vibe in the city during the festival, especially with the skyline lite up in a new and exciting way.
