You Must See The Cliffs Of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher located on the edge of The Burren in Co. Clare received the Best Irish Visitor Attraction award at the inaugural Irish Consumer Travel Awards recently in Dublin. Have you visited the West of Ireland’s iconic landmark? They are a must see.
I saw the cliffs for the first time around five years ago in the middle of February with Paul. The weather, of course, was miserable. The sky was full of gloomy clouds and there was a constant misty rain in the air. But I was still excited to see for the first time some of that beauty of the West people are always raving about.
We arrived at the the cliffs mid afternoon and there wasn’t a soul in site. It was February after all. Paul’s mother warned me it would be cold there that time of year and she was right. I ended up wearing three coats! What first struck me was the wild wind. I’m telling you, I almost felt like I was going to be blown away! Then I took a step back and saw what was around me. And truthfully, I kind of felt like I was on the edge of the world. The cliffs are massive, rugged, and still so beautiful.

I saw the cliffs a second time during the summer with some friends visiting from America. That time around the weather was lovely and sunny and there are hundreds of people swarming about taking pictures of O’Brien’s Tower [an observation tower built for Victorian tourists in 1835] and the stunning view. On clear days, you can actually see the Aran Islands and Connemara‘s hills and valleys. The view was spectacular that day and setting was actually serene.
I have to say it’s the first trip that always sticks out in my mind. However, whatever time of year you do visit the Cliffs of Moher, I promise you will be impressed. Please share your thoughts as a comment below if you have seen them yourself!
