No Singing Allowed in Walton’s Music Shop

Dublin music store Walton’s has banned the Oscar winning song “Falling Slowly” from the 2006 Irish film Once from being sung in their shop. Apparently, hundreds of people have flocked to Walton’s with the hope of singing “Falling Slowly” as it appeared in the film with the two main characters practicing in the store. Coral Reef Discovered off the West Coast of Ireland

Scientists have discovered a pristine coral reef off the West Coast of Ireland. According to the Irish Times, the cold water reef includes “40 coral reef carbonate mounds or “underwater hills”, reaching up to heights of 100m from the seabed.” To read more about expedition and the team behind this amazing find, click here.

1/2 of Swarm of Bees Take Over Dublin Restaurant

Between 25-30,000 honey bees were removed from the Indian Ocean restaurant on Montague Street in Dublin City last week. (Incidentally, a full swarm of bees includes 60,000 of the insects.) Northern Irish Couple Conquer Mount Everest

Co. Down husband and wife team Lynne and Noel Hanna reached Mount Everest’s summit this week. The Hannas completed their rigorous journey for the Ulster Cancer Foundation’s Personal Everest Project. Ireland’s Own Florence Nightingale

Agnes Jones was trained by Florence Nightingale in the mid 1800s. Jones devoted her life to caring for others and according to her great-great-great niece she died of cholera. The niece noted that “[Jones] was so young, and it was so sad that she died of an illness caught from her one of her patients while she was sleeping on the floor having given them her bed.” Find out more about one of the first nurses to be trained by the one and only Florence Nightingale by clicking here for the BBC’s story.
