Harry Potter And The Cliffs Of Moher
Co. Clare’s Cliffs of Moher are already one of the most well-known and favorite visitor spots in all of Ireland. (Just this year the location received the Best Irish Visitor Attraction award at the Irish Consumer Travel Awards.) The destination’s popularity is expected to skyrocket further with fans of the new film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince making their way to Clare. Why? Several scenes were filmed on the Cliffs (partial footage is available in the trailer). And according to The Irish Times, the Cliffs are visible in “one particularly spectacular sequence, [where] Harry Potter and Prof Dumbledore appear standing on a rock in raging seas before a sea cave and towering cliffs.” Click here to see if you can spot the Cliffs in the trailer. Irish Pair Win World Wife-Carrying Championship
The World Wife-Carrying Championship held annually in Finland (yes, this is real) was recently won by two friends from Co. Cork. The competition takes teams of men carrying women through an elaborate obstacle course. The winning Cork duo, Ciara Crossan and James Fitzpatrick, practiced a total of one day for the competition and still managed to take home the top prize. The Irish version of the competition will be held at the Sneem Family Festival in Co. Kerry on the 25th of July. Source

RyanAir Wants Passengers To Stand During Flights
The Irish budget airline Ryan Air is considering introducing standing room areas on flights. RyanAir has even gone as far as contacting airplane manufacturer Boeing to investigate standing room and stool options for their air crafts. RyanAir’s view is that standing room areas on flights are just the same as a passengers standing on other forms of transportation (think trains and buses) when all seats are full. There are actually other airlines (i.e. Chinese carrier Spring Airline) that already do this without issue. One last thing of note is that RyanAir says that standing room areas will only be available on flights lasting less than one hour. I think I’d still prefer a seat! Source

Prices In Dublin Are Falling
Good news for Dubliners and tourists alike: Prices in Dublin are falling. Dublin now ranks as the 25th most expensive city in the world dropping 12 spots from the city’s position last year at number 13. The Worldwide Cost of Living Survey compared the prices of more than 200 items (i.e. housing, food, transport and entertainment) and found Dublin to be a much more affordable place this year.
