Name: Jade Marrey
School/Dancing Organization: Jackie O’Leary School of Irish Dancing / CLRG
Dancing Level: Open Championship
Hometown: Chester, England
Current Location: Dublin, Ireland
How did you first become interested in Irish dancing?
When I moved over to Ireland and made a friend she was going to Irish dancing class and I felt so left out I made my mum bring me and I have loved it ever since.
How long have you been dancing?
7-8 years
Where did you learn your first steps?
In my old dancing teachers living room (very interesting I know)
How is Irish dancing viewed where you live? Was it difficult to find a dance school or dance group?
It’s very popular and most children do it or have done it. Not many adults do it and finding a school is very easy. There’s a lot of them around.
Do your friends/family understand your interest in Irish Dance?
Yes, there all very supportive with my dancing and are always there to help.

Do you have any particular things you’ve achieved through dance you’d like to share with Diddlyi?
I think you achieve a lot through dancing, I wouldn’t be the person I am now without dancing. I have made so many friends through dancing and it changed me. Dancing also helped my confidence and helps me get my mind off things.
What’s the most important thing you have learned from dancing? Or do you have anything you want to say to other dancers?
Dancing can set goals and ambitions for you and can change the way you look at everything.
What’s your favorite dance show and/or performer and why? Or is there any performer (even non dancing related) you admire?
It’s not really related to the question but i admire anybody who still does dancing today or still has a love for dancing, it shows they’re committed and they have a real love for it. p.s. I love Riverdance:)

What’s the greatest thing about your dance school/dance group?
We’re only a small class so its like a little family. We can trust each other and there’s always someone to talk to if you need to.
Do you have any fun/interesting/unusual stories about something that happened to you while dancing?
There’s a few :L … I sprained both my wrists and ankle dancing, [and] sneezing in the middle of my set was pretty funny … they’re two that I wont forget.
Can you give us a little background about you (non dancing related)?
Well I’m originally English. I grew up with my mum and when I was about 4 we moved to Ireland with her fiance. I have been living here ever since and been going to school here too. In school I have been learning to speak Irish Gaelic since I was 5. I have a boyfriend called Gary, he does Irish dancing as well. I started modeling this year and i hope to continue with it and maybe have it as a second career in the future.
Is there anything else you’d like say/highlight or anyone you would like to thank?
A quote I read that I’ll always remember is “Always follow your dreams and be proud to be a dreamer”. I Would like to say thanks to my mum Adele. Without her I wouldn’t be anywhere. She’s always been there for me and helped me through everything. She helped me to get to the level I’m at in dancing and I know she will help me go further. Love you <3
